Figure unveils their Figure 01 Humanoid Robot who after a year is demonstrating dynamic bipedal walking. The new development was captured on camera and the company released the video on their YouTube channel.

The video was captured on the 1st of October this year and later released on the 17th. In the video, one may see Figure 01 smoothly (and quite quickly for a humanoid robot) walking in a straight line. Although the legs are bent and not as upright compared to a human’s, the movement is graceful considering that we are talking about a humanoid robot here.

Comparing Figure 01 to Agility’s Digit bi-pedal robot, the former at least looks and possesses more humanlike leg movements. Nevertheless, the bent legs of Figure 01 may have helped the humanoid robot maintain its balance. As seen in the footage, Figure 01 is capable of turning and changing its course direction without falling or wobbling.

While the video only gives us a glimpse and status update on Figure 01’s ability to walk, many are curious about the progress on its five-digit, human-style hands. The company has yet to release new developments about these grippers and whether they are capable of having opposable thumbs, certainly, a game-changer for humanoid robots.

With all things considered though, the quick and impressive developments that Figure has been showing us lately could be a good sign that Figure 01 is on the right and fast path of becoming a humanoid robot that moves in a natural human-like way, as intended by the company.
