The Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI made it to our list of the best robot vacuums of the year, but we’ve barely scratched the surface as to why.
Thanks to advanced laser sensor technology and better object detection, we’re now capable of having some of the most high-tech gadgets to clean our house for us. The Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI is no exception. Not only is it smart, but it’s powerful too. It’s also one of the most feature-rich vacuum-mop hybrids in the industry.
Ecovacs has some great artificial intelligence technology packed into this unit so we’re definitely excited to try it out. Let’s see what else the Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI has in store.

Ecovacs presents one of its most feature-rich robot vacuums yet. The Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI contains DtoF laser-based sensors, which means it uses spinning lasers to navigate a room. The LIDAR technology isn’t anything new for Ecovacs, but this model improves upon existing hardware, firmware, and design. It also has an enhanced AI with a more extensive object library for object detection.
We’ve got a lot to go over in terms of features, but for this review, we’ll be sticking to the basics. Here’s what we found during our tests of this robot vacuum.
The Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI pretty much follows the design of its predecessors. It’s circular in shape and contains modest controls at the top. You’ll find the front-facing video camera as well as the laser sitting on top of the vacuum, though it’s still able to detect even the smallest obstacles in its way. It’s also notably wider and taller than average robot vacuums, which might be cause for concern if you’ve got smaller chairs or furniture in places like the dining room or living area.
The bottom of the vacuum is where you’ll find the main brush, water reservoir, cleaning cloth plate, two side brushes, dust container, and filters. The Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI comes with both a disposable cleaning cloth set as well as a reusable microfiber cleaning cloth — and switching them out is pretty easy even for beginners.
The T8 AIVI can be controlled through a dedicated smartphone app and voice control via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The setup is easy-peasy as the device connects to WiFi on the first try.
Despite the T8 AIVI being a hybrid mop-vacuum, we’d say the most important function is still the vacuuming. And Ecovacs definitely did something right here, because this is one of the most powerful vacuums we’ve tested thus far. At 24 cfm of power, it bests even the iRobot Roomba S9+ which we named the top robot vacuum of the year. Its suction power is second only to the Deebot 950, another Ecovacs offering.
The T8 AIVI is unsurprisingly great with crevices and just about any type of flooring, including low-pile, high-pile, tile, and hardwood floors. It can pick up dust, pet hair, human hair, and even something heavy like sand. It also deep cleans about 80% of debris stuck in a low-pile carpet, making it just above average in performance. The main brush as well as each side brush maximizes cleaning efficiency without using a lot of battery life.
That’s not the only thing that impressed us, though. Its 5200 mAh battery contains about 3 hours of battery life on a full charge, a huge improvement from its predecessors.
The Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI has LIDAR sensors, which means it uses advanced laser mapping technology to form a virtual map and cleaning sequence that works best for your home layout.
You also get the basics: virtual boundaries, no-mop zones, multi-floor mapping, a cleaning schedule, a cleaning log, and an auto-boost suction. The virtual boundaries prevent your vacuum from running into large pieces of furniture. By turning on Advanced Mode in the app, you’re getting access to custom cleaning settings, room selection, and water level options for mopping.
You might be wondering what AIVI means. Simply put, it’s the built-in artificial intelligence that lets the Robovac identify obstacles on the floor, like keys or cords and other objects that may get in the way of a rescue-free clean.
What makes this robot vacuum unique is the presence of a front-mounted video camera and some smart AI for object detection. This means you won’t have to worry about picking the vacuum up when it runs into a cord or your car keys. The object library is a neat detail that makes object detection nearly perfect 90% of the time. However, sometimes it fails to avoid objects that are hidden from its camera. It also doesn’t have a light to navigate dark corners and under furniture, which can become a big hindrance.
We also enjoyed the voice notifications that make the Deebot much cuter. When it’s stuck on an object, you’ll hear it say “The Deebot is trapped. Please set it free.”
The built-in camera is handy for more than avoiding objects because it works like a video camera as well. Yep, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI comes with HD on-demand video for when you want to check in on your pets or children while you’re away. It’s also pretty neat as an added home security feature, and Ecovacs discloses where the data is stored (and it’s not in China). The surveillance feature is not available when the vacuum is actually cleaning.
Most robot vacuums don’t come with a mopping feature, but the T8 AIVI is not like other robot vacuums. All you have to do is attach a mopping plate to the bottom along with the disposable mopping cloth, fill up the water tank, and your vacuum cleaner turns into a mop hybrid. This mop attachment is great for when you’re pressed for time because the T8 mops and vacuums at the same time.
In mopping mode, you also get to customize the mopping function, how much water goes out of the water reservoir, set up no-mop zones, and basically take advantage of the mopping functionality to a tee. However, you’ll have to purchase a separate oscillating mop attachment called the Ozmo Pro Mopping System, which is a vibrating mopping attachment that is said to oscillate 480 times per minute. This enhances the scrubbing power for a more efficient cleaning job, though you’ll only get to use water and a disposable mopping pad with it.
Do note that the vacuum cleaner doesn’t work on carpets with the mopping plate attached, so remove it if you have wall-to-wall carpeting. This shouldn’t be a problem on hard floors, though.
Sadly, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI doesn’t come with its own auto-empty station. Instead, Ecovacs asks that you buy a separate docking station for your robot vacuum. Whether you’re willing to spend extra money on a charging dock with a self-emptying bin is up to you, but let’s talk about how the auto-empty station can improve your cleaning solutions.
The T8 AIVI isn’t a damsel in distress. In the first place, it’s got top-of-the-line vacuum power and extended battery life, making it capable of running by itself. Having to empty the vacuum bags yourself every once in a while seems like a small price to pay for such a competent cleaning performance. But the auto-empty station is a sought-after feature for a reason.
The auto-empty station takes you one step closer to a fully-automated machine that requires no human intervention whatsoever. Just imagine you’re out all day and you’ve left the robot vacuum on auto-cleaning mode, but it runs out of space mid-session. Running back home just to empty it isn’t an option. Having an auto-empty station works wonders for convenience.
An intelligent machine comes with a hefty price tag. Surprisingly, the Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI isn’t so bad. You certainly get what you pay for in terms of features, technology, and functionality. You’d also be hard-pressed to find such a power-packed hybrid in any other robot vacuum for the same price.
The value could also be subjective. If you’re not looking for anything above the basic stuff, then you’d do well with a more budget-friendly robot vacuum and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Pros | Cons |
---|---|
✔️ Long battery life ✔️ High-end navigation system for targeted room cleaning ✔️ Sophisticated obstacle detection ✔️ Can vacuum and mop in one go ✔️ Works well on hard floor, bare floors, and carpets | ✖️ Expensive ✖️ Software is limited ✖️ Not as efficient at mopping as a dedicated robot mop |
The Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI packs a mean punch in terms of features. It’s not a robot vac that is interested in being the sleekest or most powerful (though it manages to do so anyway). Rather, it focuses on innovation and functionality. The Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI comes with advanced features that you won’t find anywhere else. Along with advanced customizability with the Ecovacs home app that functions as a remote control, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI makes a case for vacuum-mop hybrids everywhere.
Which is better, Roborock or Deebot?
Both the Roborock S6 and Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI are great premium robot vacuums well worth the money. However, we ranked the Deebot higher up on our overall list because of the advanced LIDAR technology and surveillance camera.
The Roborock also has powerful suction, clear navigation, and long battery life. It’s capable of connecting to Google Assistant like the Deebot. It doesn’t have the feature that automatically empties dirt into a dust bin/charging station, but its vacuum bags are significantly larger in size than the T8 AIVI.
However, the Roborock does fare better when it comes to maintenance. The side brush or side brushes connected are easy to remove and clean. There are also fewer hairs and debris that get stuck on the side brushes, requiring less upkeep overall. That’s not to say the T8 is a nightmare to clean — the included cleaning tool, as well as easily detachable brushes, are simple enough to use.
Which Ecovacs Deebot should I buy?
The Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo T8 AIVI is a great model that even now serves as one of the best the brand has ever put out. At its price point, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better or more feature-heavy vacuum-mop hybrid.
If you’re hell-bent on getting that self-emptying bin, however, the latest Deebot Ozmo model, the N8, is worth checking out.
