ILIFE V8s Robot Vacuum Cleaner Review

Share

Imagine being at work all day, sitting at your desk and typing on your computer for hours on end. You’re excited to go home and just relax — only to be welcomed by a messy house with dirt floors.

If you resonated with that, then you’re not alone. I have that frustration myself. I’m often too tired to clean my apartment, but I do so anyway because I find it hard to relax when everything around me is a mess (and I’m stepping on pet hair when walking around). I often finish cleaning up by 10 or 11 PM — so you see, sweeping and mopping the floor takes so much of my “me” time.

My life changed when I discovered robot vacuums, the ILIFE V8s Robot Vacuum Cleaner, in particular. It has helped me save time and relieve my stress and exhaustion, so let me share more about it in this full review.

About the ILIFE V8s Robot Vacuum Cleaner

ILIFE has been in the business of supplying innovative and high-tech robovacs for a while. It doesn’t disappoint when it comes to its products’ features, which is why it’s trusted by many consumers. The ILIFE V8s is one of the smartest robot vacuums I’ve seen on the market, boasting all the technologically-advanced features that make cleaning a breeze.

I’ll be honest and say that I was pretty skeptical about it at first. After all, companies make so many promises but most of them never come through. But after a week of using the V8s daily, I’m happy to say I’ve been proven wrong.

ILIFE V8s Robot Vacuum Cleaner Benefits

With its plethora of different modes for cleaning, 2-in-1 function, strong suction power, advanced features, and easy navigation, the ILIFE V8s changes the game for busy individuals like me who still want to keep their homes clean and tidy.

Here are a couple of its best features:

Various Cleaning and Navigation Modes

The ILIFE V8 Robot Vacuum cleaner has more cleaning and navigation modes than I’ve ever seen in a Robovac. These include:

  • Max mode: Increases suction power — perfect for deep cleaning dog hair and other dirt and dust.
  • Edge cleaning/ border mode: When activated, the vacuum only goes through corners
  • Spot mode: The vacuum goes around and around in a spiral pattern to deep clean specific areas
  • Path mode: Uses room mapping that allows it to clean in a clear path and ensures it won’t miss a spot
  • Classic/ auto mode: The vacuum moves in a random way — best for throw rugs and carpet cleaning

You can customize the cleaning mode of the ILIFE V8 to suit your personal preference or to adapt to the current cleaning needs of your home. It even has a scheduling feature that allows you to set a cleaning schedule and have it start the cleaning process automatically.

Personally, we like the path mode the best because it guarantees that every square inch of the floor is gone through. It even made its way under the bed, which I really liked because I’m rarely able to clean down there. If you pair this with the max mode, you’ll get the optimal cleaning performance out of this Robovac.

Mopping Mode

Most robot vacuums in the market do just that — vacuum. But the ILIFE V8 takes it a step further with its 2-in-1 functionality. With both a robot vacuum and a robot mop, the dustbin underneath it can be replaced with a water tank to use the Robovac’s mopping mode.

You can fill the large bin or water tank with a cleaning solution and then attach the mop cloth. When you turn the device on again and select your desired cleaning mode, the device will go around dispensing the solution and wiping your floors clean.

Mopping is an essential part of my daily cleaning routine because we have white tiles at home. It’s easy to spot the smallest stain, so I really appreciate that the device can take on the job of mopping the floors for me.

You should set your expectations straight, though. The water tank does not manage how much liquid is dispensed to the mop cloth. The cleaning solution or water will continuously go down as long the water tank is connected to the robot mop.

Because of this, there is a tendency for the floor to become too wet. The vacuum’s navigation will also go through the same spot over and over again, so you’ll likely end up with a small but fair puddle of cleaning solution in one room.

Despite these drawbacks, though, I think the mopping function is a pretty handy feature to have in a budget robot vacuum.

Obstacle Detection

The ILIFE V8s Robot Vacuum’s obstacle detection is top-notch. It has an advanced sensor that allows it to see obstacles ahead and stop and change its route before it even hits.

In case the sensor doesn’t detect an obstruction, the device is equipped with bumpers in front and on both sides. The bumpers have springs that allow them to be pushed in when the device hits an object and automatically bounce back out. This is great so as to ensure that hitting obstacles doesn’t damage its internal components. But the bumpers can get scratched over time.

While the sensor is pretty effective, I found that it couldn’t detect low-rise objects or slight floor elevations. The device ends up hitting low furniture, but that’s the whole point of having those bumpers. It doesn’t have any drop sensors either, but the wheels are strong enough to prevent damaging impact.

Strong Suction Power

The ILIFE V8s has pretty strong suction, picking up most of the dirt it passes through. But it will need to make two passes before the hard floors become squeaky clean. I think that’s because of its bristles, which spin while the device goes around the house.

The bristles have a tendency to push the dirt away, so the vacuum will have to make another pass to clean it up. Nevertheless, it did a really great job picking up dirt, dog hair, and other particles on the floor.

While I appreciate the strong suction, it was a little too noisy for me. It’s not exactly whisper-quiet, as with most robotics on the market. The vacuum sound is very prominent, and I could even hear the brake system going off on the hard floors when the V8s were changing their route. Luckily, the mopping function, of course, is much quieter than the vacuum mode.

I wouldn’t say that the device has a large dustbin because it’s still relatively small compared to what others have. But the capacity is enough to carry all the dirt from one vacuuming cycle.

Self-Charging

If you asked me to name the one thing I really liked about the ILIFE V8s, it would be its self-charging feature. The device can find its way to its charging dock wherever it is in my apartment. It typically goes “home” when the battery life starts running low or when it detects that it’s gone through the entire space.

Aside from its auto self-charging feature, you can also command the vacuum to go back to its dock by pressing the home button below the LCD display or on the remote control (more on this later).

I found this feature very amusing. It’s convenient too, seeing that don’t have to carry it back to its dock whenever it runs low on power or when it’s done cleaning. I do have to change the water tank and replace the dustbin, though. This is so that I can just press a button to start my next cleaning cycle instead of having it on mop mode and changing it when I want to use it.

With regards to battery life, I found that it could run for over 2 hours before going home to charge. That’s more than enough time for it to clean a small apartment, but the same cannot be said for bigger homes or cleaning multiple rooms in a single cycle.

Keep in mind that the charging dock is rather light, so it could move around when the vacuum’s trying to position itself. ILIFE recommends that you place the charging dock against a wall to prevent the vacuum from pushing it.

You should also make sure that the dock is placed where there are no obstructions within 1 meter on all sides. This is to allow the vacuum to navigate its way seamlessly, as opposed to hitting and avoiding blocking furniture.

Sleek Appearance

The vacuum looks great with its minimalist yet elegant design and durable build. The surface is made of shiny silver plating, which makes it look really high-end. I had no problem incorporating this into my apartment’s interior — it just fit right in.

I would say, however, that the vacuum is a little bigger and heavier than I would like. But then again, the weight doesn’t really matter because of its phenomenal navigation. It’s the size that bothered me a bit.

Because it’s too big, it couldn’t go find its way in and out of slim and low clearance furniture, like the dining chairs. I had to move the chairs so the device could fit and clean underneath. It doesn’t have a large dustbin, so a lot of inches could be taken off of this vacuum. But its current size expands its list of no-go zones.

The wheels of the vacuum look sturdy and durable, suitable for different floor types. They are big, making the V8s tall enough to climb low elevations, a low pile carpet, and room separators. It found its way through the shower area and had no problem getting out. That’s pretty convenient because you don’t have to worry about it as it goes about its cleaning cycle.

The wheels are also safe to use on hard floors, so you don’t have to worry about them scratching your flooring.

Fool-Proof Remote Control

While the ILIFE V8s does not feature app control or work with Google Assistant, it comes with a simple remote controller. It only has six basic controls that allow you to choose between the different cleaning settings, as well as the start/pause and navigation buttons. It’s easy enough to understand, and I like that it doesn’t make it too complicated to change cleaning modes or navigation settings.

It’s important to note, however, that the remote control does not come with batteries. You’ll have to purchase and plug in two AAA batteries to start using it. Another warning is to avoid repetitive button pushing so you don’t confuse the device.

Spare Accessories

While other vacuums are sent alone, you get so much more with the ILIFE V8s. The package comes with the ILIFE V8s device, along with several accessories, including:

  • Charging dock
  • Remote control
  • Power adapter
  • Water tank/ mop attachment

The ILIFE V8s competes very well in the market for robot vacuum cleaners. After an hour of running it on vacuum mode and another hour of utilizing the mopping system, it cleaned the multiple rooms of my apartment impeccably.
