Kim Kardashian’s recent encounter with futuristic creations from Tesla, the Optimus robot and Cybercab, has set social media abuzz. The business mogul and reality TV icon shared a series of lighthearted videos showcasing Tesla’s cutting-edge technology, offering fans a glimpse of a tech-driven future straight out of a sci-fi movie.
On Monday afternoon, Kardashian posted a clip featuring Tesla’s Optimus robot, captioned, “Meet my new friend.”. The sleek, white humanoid robot stood on a grassy patch as Kardashian greeted it off-camera. The robot responded with a wave, and a playful exchange ensued, with Kim forming half a heart shape with her hand, which Optimus completed.
“You know how to do that?” Kardashian exclaimed in awe. The robot further showcased its abilities with animated gestures, including running movements and wave-like motions.
In another video posted later that day, Kim introduced Tesla’s Cybercab, an autonomous vehicle prototype developed by Elon Musk. This time, the Optimus humanoid robot, gleaming in gold, sat in the driver’s seat — that we can assume will be the designated “driver”. Although, of course, we all know that Tesla’s Cybercab is pretty autonomous in itself and won’t need a driver to steer and navigate.
What caught Kim’s attention though was the design of the Cybercab. She marveled at the vehicle’s rims, exclaiming, “Oh my god, look at these rims,” before captioning the post, “Optimus is here to take (me) for a ride in the Cybercab.”.
Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO, joined the conversation on X (formerly Twitter), sharing Kim’s video with a sunglasses emoji, adding to the viral buzz. By Tuesday afternoon, the post had already amassed over 8 million views, highlighting the immense public curiosity surrounding Tesla’s robotic and autonomous tech.
The collaboration between Tesla and Kim Kardashian could be seen as a clever marketing move. With Kim’s global influence and massive social media following, a simple post can help amplify awareness about Tesla’s innovations and spark broader interest amongst the general public. After all, Musk has announced that he plans on reaching volume production in 2026.
“We’re aiming for at least 2 million units a year of Cybercab,” he said. “That’ll be in more than one factory, but I think it’s at least 2 million units a year, maybe 4 million ultimately.”, said Elon Musk. He also said last October that he believes that the Optimus humanoid robot “has a good chance of being the most valuable product ever made”, hinting that Tesla may not be selling this robot after all contrary to previous reports.
While questions still remain about the timeline and concrete applications of both the Optimus humanoid robot and Cybercab, this playful interaction with Kim Kardashian did generate some buzz. One thing is clear though, Tesla’s vision for robotics is intriguing.
