The Robots That Took Center Stage at World Robot Conference 2024

The World Robot Conference 2024 opened in Beijing on August 21, and it drew significant attention locally and globally. Similar to past conferences, this year’s events were a combination of forums, exhibitions, and competitions amongst 169 companies with over 600 products. This included more than 60 brand-new robotic products.

In that figure, there was a category of robots that stole the show — humanoid robots. With an estimated 27 models on display, these humanoid robots caught the attention of many audiences as they demonstrated various features and capabilities ranging from industrial training scenarios to commercial applications.

Onlookers were definitely entertained and in awe witnessing how humanlike these humanoid robots are both in features and mannerisms. There were robots who were able to fetch medicine, play the piano, wash clothes, and make coffee.

Robot pets, specifically robot dogs, also caught the attention of audiences. The Go2, a consumer-grade quadruped robot produced by Unitree Robotics drew on many onlookers as it performed various tricks.

Its ability to jump, climb stairs, and perform handstands was all made possible by its AI-driven reinforcement learning. Aside from G1, Unitree Robotics brought five other robots to the World Robot Conference 2024, including humanoid robots H1 and G1.

Lastly, the crepe chef robot gained lots of customers and drew on many onlookers as it whipped up quality crepes for people to eat. Many audiences cited that they were thoroughly impressed by this robot, which was able to create delicious crepes to their liking.

Visitor, Liu Chujun, walks us through the process of ordering a crepe from said robot, “There’s a QR code and you choose the type of crepe you want to buy. There are two options, spicy and non-spicy, I chose the non-spicy one and added two eggs. After placing the order and making the payment, the machine starts preparing it. The whole process only takes about two minutes, and then it’s ready to eat.”

With an avenue such as the World Robot Conference 2024, people get to experience firsthand the capabilities of robots and how they may be of convenience to us all. It’s important for events such as this one to truly put their best robots forward so that many get to appreciate further how robots can be of benefit.
